I have played at doyle's for about 4 months. I haven't responded to these threads yet but thought I would now after having an opportunity to play thousands of hands there.
I have seen very large swings in my bankroll playing there but not any different I don't think than anywhere else. I enjoy playing there because of the bad players. However, you will see more bad beats when you are getting called and run at with inferior hands where you have comitted all your chips. I typically play .50/1.00 or 1.00/2.00 and always sit down with the maximum chips and am always prepared to re-up for the max, unless I think I am playing with equal or possibly better players.
Last nites play was a good example of what happens when you play with the bad players. I sit down at the table and player A has about $100, not sure what he started with but it after 15 minutes of play and having him put all his chips in play about 3 times, I realize that he will pay. However, he busted 2 people along the way, both times he went in with inferior hands and drew the better hand. I played with him for an hour and half, he went from $100 to $250 and when he went all in pre-flop with me with his Q9, I was happy to call and take a chance with my AK. I would've preferred to have him put all his chips at me after the flop or river when I had stone cold nutz but at this point he was going all in almost every 2nd hand, as he had dropped from $250 to $75 and back up to about $125. I was fortunate and busted him and he left the table with nothing.
Now the 2 players who sat down with smaller chip stacks and got busted by this guy, no doubt felt robbed when they left the table. I too lost 1/3 of my stack early but re-upped to make sure I could maximize my return, when the opportunity presented itself, as I knew it would. This bad player rightfully left the table with nothing, but he mortally wounded a couple along the way. Does that make on-line poker rigged?
I think the biggest mistake people make is not having a big enough bankroll to play in certain games, and to overcome the huge swings. The poor players will eventually tap out, you need to have the resources though to be there to see it happen.
I like Doyles, I have many many people on my buddy list there.
